All Counseling & Psychological services start with a Tele-Health consulation appointment which can be scheduled on the Patient Portal.

Sarah Lawrence College Counseling & Psychological Services practitioners are trained to work with a diverse range of issues and can help you identify your treatment goals. Our staff are generalists and well equipped at treating the diverse needs of undergraduate and graduate students. We routinely treat students for depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and other psychological concerns. Our staff includes a range of mental health providers.

All services begin with an initial 30 minute tele-health consultation where you will have a chance to talk about the concerns you wish to address. Based on the information presented, you and the therapist will decide upon a treatment plan. Treatment plans may include on-campus care, off campus referrals, or a combination of the two. (Click here to schedule an initial 30 minute consultation).

On-Campus Care: On campus care begins with a tele-health consultation. During this consultation you and your provider will determine your next steps which may include:

Intake appointment-A thorough evaluation with a clinician to gather historical and current information regarding your presenting concerns.

Individual psychotherapy sessions -Short term counseling to develop effective coping strategies, clarify issues, and work towards making positive changes in your life. (up to six individual sessions per academic year). We are a hybrid model and also partner with Mantra Health for teletherapy sessions.

Group therapy sessions- A weekly opportunity to meet with students struggling with similar challenges. Our groups are facilitated by a clinician and provide a confidential space to gain support, healing, and perspective (unlimited sessions per academic year). Dates and times are determined each semester.

Let's Talk- Drop-in for a 20-minute solution oriented support session with a Health & Wellness Therapist. Our therapists are available for all students for brief clinical support to provide feedback and problem solving. "Let's Talk" is offered on Tuesdays 1-2:30 pm in the BWCC.  This is not a substitute for therapy and is not for urgent mental health crisis needs.

Psychiatric Services We offer multiple pathways to connecting with psychiatric medication management support depending on                your needs and concerns. We believe in helping students establish a care plan that can support them successfully throughout their time         at SLC. Our clinical case manager will work with students to refer  them for a medication management plan.

  • For students with more complex psychiatric medication regimens we will assist with a referral off campus to establish a care plan.

      ADHD:

SLC Health & Wellness is unable to complete diagnostic evaluations for ADHD. However, we can refer students to community specialists  for comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis off campus. For students with a complex ADHD and psychiatric medication regimen we refer off campus.

Students Previously Diagnosed with ADHD:

If you have previously been diagnosed with ADHD and are stable on medication treating ADHD prescribed by your provider, you should continue obtaining the prescription(s) from your provider. New York State has no exclusions on prescriptions for controlled substances from outside of the state, therefore your provider can send your prescription to a local pharmacy for pick up or delivery.

If you're experiencing issues with accessing continued medication from your provider:
If you have tried to obtain the prescription(s) from your provider and have experienced issues, you can seek approval to receive  ADHD care at Health & Wellness. To do this, you must have your prescribing provider complete our Documentation of Previous ADHD Treatment Form and have them return it per instructions on the form. Please note the following are required to be considered for ADHD Medication Refills at SLC Health & Wellness.

  • A fully completed Documentation of Previous ADHD Treatment Form - must be completed by a psychiatrist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, or a doctorate level psychologist. Evaluation by primary care doctor including standardized evaluations and long term care history are acceptable in some cases. Online or telehealth evaluations are not sufficient.
  • Treatment history - including medication history (at least 6 months) * SLC Health & Wellness will NOT initiate ADHD medication management for the first time*
  • Treatment plan - what your current provider anticipates going forward, including dosage of current medication

After submission, the Health & Wellness clinical staff will review your records. Communication regarding student’s request will be sent via secure message through the Health & Wellness patient portal.
