The College pays the full premiums for this coverage from The Hartford Group. The plan offers life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment under a schedule of benefits based on age and salary. This coverage is for employees only; dependents are not insured under the plan. The benefit amounts are as follows:
|Up to age 70:
|1.00 times salary (up to a maximum of $50,000)
|Age 70 to 74:
|.65 times salary
|Age 75 to 79:
|.40 times salary
|Age 80 and up:
|.25 times salary
|Maximum benefit: $50,000 regardless of age or salary
Participants with a terminal illness may accelerate the payment of their life insurance and receive the death benefit prior to their death.
If your employment with the College or your membership in an eligible class should terminate, you will have a 45-day period during which you may apply for an individual life insurance policy, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the plan.
Supplemental Life Insurance for Purchase
The College also provides access to supplemental life insurance which employees may elect and pay for through payroll deduction. Policies may be purchased for the employee, employee spouse, and children. Newly hired employees are eligible to purchase up to $100,000 in supplemental life insurance for themselves and up to $30,000 for a spouse immediately upon hire without the requirement of evidence of insurability (the completion of a medical questionnaire). Requests for policies in excess of these amounts will require an EOI. Employees choosing to enroll after their initial hire, including during open enrollment will be required to submit evidence of insurability for themselves and any dependents for any coverage level.
