Transportation legislation enables Sarah Lawrence College to offer employees the opportunity to set aside up to $325 a month ($3,900 a year) from their paycheck, on a pre-tax basis, to pay for commuting cost. In effect, the employees reimburse themselves on a tax-free basis for commuting expenses.
TransitChek Policy and Advantages
- Sarah Lawrence College is offering commuter program through Healthequity/Wageworks (Employee Login) as a pre-tax benefit. This program will allow eligible employees to commute tax-free up to $325 a month ($3,900 a year).
- This amount is exempt from Federal Income.
- Commuter prepaid Visa Cards are accepted by providers of mass transit in the New York Metro area, including LIRR, Metro-North, NJ Transit, PATH, MTA subways and buses, and suburban buses. For more information, please go to the HealthEquity/ WageWorks website.
Procedure:
The following procedures to enroll for transit benefits through Healthequity.com participants:
- You can enroll at any time.
- Download and complete the enrollment form and submitted to Imelda Pleitez-Santana @ Ipleitez@SarahLawrence.Edu.
- You may review, change, and manage your monthly benefit online at Healthequity/Wageworks (Employee Login).
- Payroll deductions will be processed one month in advance.
- Commuter credit card and/or MetroCard will be mailed to the address listed on your profile and reloaded monthly thereafter.
NOTE: In the event of separation from the College, per the IRS regulations, unused transit and parking benefits cannot be refunded to the employees.
