  • Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey Dataset

The PDF file available on this page contains a summary of response frequencies for the Spring 2015 Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey.  The survey is based on the federal guidelines published in Fall 2014 and was implemented by the Higher Educations Data-Sharing Consortium.  Response frequencies are shown for the 500 Sarah Lawrence students who submitted answers to the survey.  All degree-seeking students (~1,500) at SLC were invited to participate in the survey.

Comparative response data are presented for the other 42 Liberal Arts colleges and universities who participated in this survey.  The response data have been deprecated to protect the identity of individual respondents.

The survey was divided into 4 sections and responses are presented accordingly:

    1. Assessing respondents' perceptions of the campus climate and understanding of campus resources devoted to prevention and investigation of sexual assault.
    2. Assessing the frequency and nature of sexual assault and unwanted sexual contact.
    3. Characterizing the context in which sexual assaults occur and the extent to which victims disclose assaults to campus officials or others.
    4. Characterizing the demographics of survey respondents.

In addition to presenting responses for SLC survey participants, the PDF document summarizes responses at all 43 institutions of the Higher Education Data-Sharing Consortium and within the 43 schools the responses at large and small institutions.  (Small institutions have enrollments under 3,500)

In Spring 2017, Sarah Lawrence College participated again in the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium's (HEDS) Sexual Assault Campus Climate survey.  HEDS is a professionally-staffed membership organization that supports institutional research across more than 120 liberal arts colleges, most of them SLC peers.  HEDS first conducted the survey in 2015.  The content of the survey is based on federal regulatory guidance and was reviewed and approved by an official Institutional Review Board.

The attached document provides SLC frequency response rates for the range of survey questions alongside comparative response rates as sister institutions.  Of the approximately 1490 SLC undergraduate students surveyed in Spring 2017, 21% responded.  This rate is lower than the participation rate in Spring 2015, but compares reasonably well with the 23% response rate of students surveyed at all similar (small enrollment) HEDS colleges since the survey was first launched in 2015.
