Subversive Film: Theory, Critique,Intergenerational Collaboration (FILM 3235 R)

Description
This course will explore subversive film and intergenerational learning and making, bringing together Sarah Lawrence students and residents from Wartburg senior living facility for screenings, lectures, and collaboration. Guest artists, writers, and filmmakers will present lectures on selected works, situating them within broader traditions of avant-garde cinema. We will focus the radical interventions of feminist, queer, and Black filmmakers, tracing how these works expose structures of power and reshape dominant narratives using the tools of genre, horror, social critique, and meta-cinema. Writing
workshops will support the development of critical and creative responses, laying the groundwork for Intergenerational Film: Collaboration and Subversion (FILM 3265) in the spring in which students and residents will pair off and collaborate on narrative films.
