Description

This course will explore the intersection of personal narrative and cinematic craft, guiding students through the process of transforming lived experiences into compelling documentary films. From initial ideation to the final cut, students will learn to identify the "story" within their own history, moving beyond mere information to create emotionally resonant narratives. The course will balance technical fundamentals—cinematography, sound, and non-linear editing—with deeper dives into documentary ethics and the art of the interview. Students will learn post-production essentials using editing to shape footage, archival materials, and sound into a cohesive film. By the end of the semester, each student will have directed, shot, and edited a personal short documentary film that serves as a powerful testament to their unique perspective.
