Description

This course will examine the video image as an artistic medium through the study of contemporary video art. The course will focus on identity and self-exploration. Students will make one work in two phases: first, a video investigation of the self and second, a screen-based installation of that work using projectors, monitors, and found technology. Students will be expected to develop fluency in video as a critical and aesthetic practice, to conduct independent research into the current state of the medium, and to situate their own work within the contemporary field. Projects will be developed through skills-based demonstrations and iterative critique. While there is no access to custom fabrication in this course, students are encouraged to experiment with available equipment and innovative surfaces. Also offered as First-Year Studies ARTS 1358.
