Description

Clinical Field Work Practicum combines coursework with clinical fieldwork experience in off-campus preschool educational settings. Through an individual supervision format alongside clinical practice experiences, students develop a basic understanding of how dance/movement therapy is integrated into early childhood educational systems, community-based settings, and healthcare systems, in close examination of one’s professional roles and responsibilities as a culturally-informed dance/movement therapist. Students gain opportunities to develop ethical practice and clinical skills in dance/movement therapy: facilitating dance/movement therapy groups and establishing therapeutic movement relationships, understanding the importance of embodied self-reflection and social/cultural awareness, responsibly applying movement observation assessment and principles, utilizing culturally appropriate movement metaphor and verbal skills, and maintaining ethical boundaries in therapeutic relationships. The academic content of the course will be enriched by the use of effective supervisory processes in order to meet the specific needs of the fieldwork settings. Restricted to First Years.
