Admission Application Procedures:

  • The online application allows applicants to upload essay questions at a later point. Please keep in mind that each program may require additional materials, interviews, and/or auditions. A $60.00 non-refundable application fee must be mailed to the Graduate Studies Office within the next seven days following the submission of the application. Payment can only be made by check or money order payable to Sarah Lawrence College. Financial Aid information can be found at: http://www.slc.edu/graduate/admission/financing/index.html
  • An official transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution you attended is required. Only official transcripts sent directly by the institution to Graduate Studies at Sarah Lawrence College will be accepted. Please send to:

  • Please send two letters of recommendation from people who know you well enough to give an informed opinion as to your intellectual ability for sustained academic effort. If you are unable to contact former teachers, we welcome letters from others, such as employers, who can make similar assessments. Preferably, one of those should be from a person in your field of interest. Recommendation forms will be available for download.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required for admission to Sarah Lawrence.
  • Individuals whose native language is not English must send official scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Information concerning TOEFL may be obtained by writing: TOEFL, Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ 08541. Request that the results be sent to Sarah Lawrence College, ETS code 2810.
  • Essay questions and/or writing sample requirements are specific to each program. Please make sure to include all writing materials with each sheet clearly labeled, indicating the specific question being answered. Please address each question according to indicated or reasonable length (generally at least 1 page if not indicated). All materials must be typed. Any additional material, which represents your ability to pursue graduate study, would be welcome.
  • All application deadlines are the same for non-U.S. applicants as for U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
