MySLC Documentation: Pages, Portlets, and Layout

What is a Portlet?

A portlet is a customizable frame that can be inserted onto any page in MySLC. Users with editing permissions for the area can add specific types of content within the frame. There are many different types of portlets currently on MySLC. Some examples include the Course Search portlet that allows the user to search the Sarah Lawrence Course Catalogue, the Announcements portlet, which displays campus news, and the Handouts portlet, which contains documents that users can download.

How to Recognize a Portlet

A portlet has three easily identifiable features:

  1. A light gray border frames the portlet.
  2. The portlet title is displayed above the portlet in a dark gray font. This title is clickable, and will bring you to the Main Screen of the portlet if you are not there already.
  3. A small clickable wrench icon is located next to the title. Clicking the wrench will bring you to any settings and preferences options that are available, and will also allow you to set permissions for the portlet (for more information, see Pages, Portlets, and Layout: Setting Permissions for Portlets.
